James answers the Liberty Candidate questions below:
I – THE U.S. FINANCIAL SYSTEM
1. What is your view of the monetary system in the U.S. today?
The monetary system is in total disarray. The dollar is faltering because the “good faith and credit” of the US government is nothing more than a pipe dream. Fiat money is dead.
2. What corrective actions could we take right now to improve the economy?
First thing we need to do is freeze all Federal spending and make the debt ceiling a true barrier. If I have an 8 foot ceiling and come home with a 9 foot Christmas tree I can not just arbitrarily say I have a taller room. Once this is done we need to scale back federal spending across the board by at least 5% per year.
3. Do you agree with the actions the Federal Reserve has taken to solve the financial crisis? If not, what could the Fed have done differently?
No, all the Fed has done was throw good money after bad. The Fed should have done nothing. All they are good for is funneling money to the bankers.
4. Should the Federal Reserve be audited fully, no secrets, or does it need to keep some information under wraps?
YES! Transparency is key. We need to know exactly where our dollar stands.
II – FOREIGN POLICY
5. What is your opinion on current US foreign policy?
It is a disaster. My opinion on foreign policy can easily be summed up in the word of Thomas Jefferson – “peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none.”
6. How should we fight a “war on terror”?
We shouldn’t. You simply cannot win a war against an ideology.
7. Should the U.S. occupy other countries? If not, would you push to close all bases? Are there any you would keep open?
No, the U.S. should not occupy any sovereign land. This is a republic, not an empire. I would want to close all bases. With the ICBM technology the U.S. has there is no need to have a physical presence in foreign lands in case of an attack.
8. Should the U.S. maintain its standing army?
Absolutely. Military strength is THE reason America has been able to stand as long as it has. The country just needs to use its forces responsibly and within the constraints of the Constitution. I.e – No undeclared wars.
9. Is the Patriot Act necessary to protect America? If not, would you vote to repeal it?
No, it is an sickeningly intrusive law and I would in fact vote in its repeal.
III – PERSONAL LIBERTY
10. What information may the U.S. government legally gather about its citizens? When would it be necessary to overstep those boundaries?
Name, Address, SSN. Never.
11. What limits, if any, should be placed on the U.S. government’s ability to search its citizens without a warrant?
I would limit this under any circumstance. This is a nation of laws. The 4th Amendment is clear on this.
12. Ought the U.S. government be allowed to protect its citizens’ health by outlawing foods it considers unsafe, or to force medicate (i.e., fluoridation) or force vaccinate citizens?
No what we put in our bodies is our own concern and none of the government’s. Forced medication or vaccines should not be tollerated under any circumstance.
13. What controls, if any, should be placed on the right to own a gun? Is there an effective way to keep guns out of the hands of madmen and criminals without encroaching on the rights of free, law-abiding citizens?
All free, law abiding people have the right to be armed. Period. I am very fond of the 2nd Amendment as I am a shooter and gun owner myself. I also belong to many 2nd amendment organizations.
IV – U.S. SOVEREIGNTY
14. Is our involvement in and subjugation to global organizations, such as WHO, NATO, the UN, etc., a benefit to U.S. citizens?
No, any global organization only serves to undermine sovereignty of the U.S.
15. Would you work to repeal international agreements that purport to hold U.S. citizens and/or property under its jurisdiction, or do you think there might be times when benefits outweigh concessions?
No, again this also undermines the U.S’s sovereignty.
16. Are trade agreements with other nations, i.e., NAFTA, CAFTA, good for U.S. citizens?
No, they have been in place for some time and have not served any benefit to the U.S. as far as I can see.
17. Should the U.S. give foreign aid to other countries? If yes, for what purposes would it be justified? If not all countries, which would you continue to support?
As nice as it would be to help out friends in a crisis, we just do not have the resources to do it. Private charity is the answer.
V – STATE SOVEREIGNTY
18. When does state law take precedent over federal law?
The 10th Amendment calls for states to make up laws where the Constitution makes no reference to an issue. States also have the right and the responsibility to fight unjust federal mandates, such as the health care reform act.
19. Would you stand up to the federal government and demand that it stay within the bounds of its enumerated powers and out of state business?
Proudly.
20. Do federal officers have the right to arrest non-military citizens within the individual states for any crimes?
Yes, if the individual is in fact in violation of a federal law.
VI – ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
21. What do you see as the #1 problem with illegal immigration?
I think the problem lies more in LEGAL immigration. It is extremely difficult to come to this country legally. I look at liberty as a universal principal and would hope that people from around the globe would see the U.S. as a beacon of prosperity and come here to join us.
22. What actions could we take to stop illegal immigrants from taking advantage of social services?
I think ALL social services should be replaced with privatized charity. However the system the way it is now should be changed so that only citizens and legal residents (green card holders) can receive benefits.
VII – MISC. QUESTIONS
23. If you could make one amendment to the U.S. Constitution, what would it be?
Abolishment of the Federal Reserve
24. Would you vote to end government subsidies to private industry?
Yes, without exception.
25. What should our government’s action be against Julian Assange, if any?
None.
